Work has begun on a $500m life sciences building in Boston designed by US multidisciplinary consultant SGA.
The 32,500-sq-m Forum development is being built along the Massachusetts Pike in the centre of the city for Lendlease and Ivanhoé Cambridge. When complete, it will be the city’s first purpose-built development of its kind, reports Boston Real Estate Times.
According to SGA, the building is aiming for LEED Platinum certification, and will be operationally net zero, in accordance with Lendlease’s Mission Zero policy and Ivanhoé Cambridge’s commitment to achieve net zero carbon by 2040.
John Sullivan, SGA’s president of architecture, commented: “Forum will be an ultramodern life sciences building in an area that has robust demand for specialised life sciences and research facilities, considering its close proximity to Kendall Square, the epicentre of Greater Boston’s life sciences sector.”
The building will include office and laboratory space along with “eclectic amenities” at street level and parking space for 146 bicycles
The work is being carried out by Massachusetts contractor Consigli Construction, with BR+A as the project engineer and McNamara Salvia as structural engineer.
